Winter temperatures drop to 7 - 22 degrees Celsius throughout June to August. The average water temperature on the Sunshine Coast remains a pleasant 24°C.

What Is the Best Time to Visit the Sunshine Coast?

As a region with the highest sunshine rate in the world, there’s no wrong time to visit the sunshine coast. However, Sunshine Coast weather in spring is genuinely delightful, with an average temperature of 26°C and little to no humidity. From September to November, the Sunshine Coast emerges from the cooler winter months and warms up to a very comfortable temperature throughout the day. Although the ocean can be slightly cooler to swim in at this time of year, the beaches are usually less crowded than the peak tourism period in summer.

Winter Sunshine Coast Weather

Throughout the winter months, the temperature on the Sunshine Coast drops between 7 - 22 degrees Celsius. The Blackall Mountain Range’s hinterland does experience several degrees cooler temperatures than other parts of the Sunshine Coast. The reduced temperature is due to its location away from the coastline’s mild temperatures and the dense surrounding forest.

Summer Weather Sunshine Coast

Summer on the Sunshine Coast is warm, wet, humid and muggy, with an average daily high temperature sitting just above 27°C. The wet part of the season lasts from late October to early June. The wet season peaks in the summer months, from January to March, with the likely occurrence of a wet day on the Sunshine Coast peaking at 40% in February. Despite the wet weather, the Sunshine Coast ocean temperature retains an average of 26°C, and cool sea breezes in the evening offer relief from the humid conditions.

All factors considered, the summer months on the Sunshine Coast remain an excellent time to visit for hot-weather activities such as water-based sports and adventures. Comfortable to hot weather is most prevalent throughout the summer months, which is ideal for beach-hoppers or those who prefer to sit by the pool with a cocktail in hand.

Sunshine Coast Wet Season

The wet part of the season on the Sunshine Coast can last from late October to early June. However, the actual wet season begins with thunderstorms in November and typically carries through to April. The wet season peaks throughout the summer months and particularly in February, when the chance of rainfall throughout the day reaching a 40% likelihood. The wet season is characterised by concentrated showers, which generally occur at night time and have little impact on tourism activities. Rainfall on the Sunshine Coast is typically confined to the wet season and rarely occurs outside of the wet season.

Cyclone Season in Sunshine Coast

Cyclones can occur in Queensland and on the Sunshine Coast from December through to April. Fortunately for the Sunshine Coast, the region misses the most severe cyclone threats.
